Ohhh…
My legs are so heavy!
This was my race yesterday.
My teammate Hulick attacked and got the hole shot and gave me a good launching pad. I buried myself the first bunch of laps. I was leading the race and felt really good. In my head I figured “only Decker and Shannon could catch up to me, if I let them.” But the harsh reality of the slighty extended climb on the course and the really short lap times caught up to me, as did Shannon.
We rode together for a couple laps but, my legs were dead on the climb. It would have been sweet to finish together but, Shannon got a little gap and I am happy with 2nd place. Again.
Teammate Hulick dropped all the way back to 10th place at one point but, then brought it all back together for 4th place right behind Decker. Tonkin was in Colorado.
Shannon and I were pretty much the only ones NOT in costume. Apparently we decided to be each other for Halloween. The officials would not buy it and did not give us the discounted entry fee.
PS: the photo above is Tonkin and I at the 2nd USGP in Glocester, Ma.
(PPS: Tonkin, got 4th yesterday in Boulder. Good job!)
PPPS: I’ve been having a pretty bummy couple weeks. I was not totally “on” on Sunday. My head was somewhere else. I just wanted to stare at the floor all day. I’m not trying to be rude while avoiding eye contact…
At the bottom of that first climb, first lap, we were together. At the bottom of the hill after the climb, you had like 10 SECONDS on me already!? I was quite impressed. That hill sucked. I almost blacked out one time going up it, and I was even going backwards?!? I wish I had just watched and drank beer instead. Sure looked like a lot more fun.
Keep at it, the win will come soon…
