USGP #5 Portland

Was having a decent race till my saddle broke!

Here is a a photo of me killing it.

Here is a photo of me fat like Jan Ullrich.

Tonkin was sick and yet still doing his usual “pull everyone around the race course”. Adam Mcgrath was with us and we caught an obviously tired Barry Wicks. I attacked just before we caught Barry and bridged up to Dan Timmerman, I took a huge pull but and he did not pull through. weird. I slipped out in a corner and that was it for my attack and I got caught by Tonkin again.

When we caught Barry the hollow ti rails on my saddle snapped just past the pits! My saddle flew off my bike and I had to stand and hammer in my 12t cog chasing Barry, Adam and Eric for a good half a lap. I finally pitted, got my fresh bike (with saddle) and started chasing again. Adam, in all his might, folded a chainring in half and I passed him in the last lap but Barry and Eric were gone.

Not so stoked about the mechanical but, at least I’ve got some legs back eh?

15th place?

Not so good, not so bad.

  1. That’s proper breathing, right?

Nice work given the mechanical, good luck today!

  2. Doesn’t Adam weigh all of 100 pounds?

  3. Why are you racing in short sleeves but with long fingered gloves? Those items are incompatible.

  5. 15th with an untimely mechanical is great! You should be proud of your fitness right now. Too bad about the mechanical though, top ten would have been sweet.. Save it for Kansas.
