Living the dream!

I was introduced to Sven Nys today:

By someone from Qoleum before I went to warm up. He was methodically checking his saddle height. He said hey, asked if I was staying through worlds.
Wachtebeke: a pretty small C2 cx race north of Gent.
I’ve got to make this short as I need to make some more dinner and food for tomorrow and get [...]

I was dreaming…

…yesterday morning when I heard a faint “hello? you coming?” from downstairs!
I totally overslept and hopped right onto my bike (again) for the big group ride. I ended up in the front group by myself, nothing too exciting, lots of older Belgian men. Ex pros, grizzled 60 year olds. We passed by Sven Nys fixing [...]

The Begijnendijk ride:

Not an hour off of the plane, Jos cons me into meeting up for the big group ride around Aarschot. It was 60+ people riding 2 abreast and in two groups (the 2nd group a minute back). I rode out to the start of the ride with Helen Wyman and Gabby Day. They raced the [...]

You did'nt know I was 30?

Ha!
I’ll make it short.
I got 4th place today in the 30-34 US national cyclocross champs.
I’m disappointed I did not win but, I am stoked that I got on the podium and got a medal.
Michael, Hulick and I started in about 70th position near the back of the race so, it was chase, chase, chase and [...]

Tielt winge!

Found a link to the house I am staying at.
I tried to con Brian Vernor into coming over to Belgium with me and he finally got his ticket! He is heading over to stay with Joachim Parbo (Danish national champ) and he did not know the name of the town he was staying at. Turns [...]

What did I tell you?

Legs ARE coming around. True to my word, I improved on my result yesterday!
I feel like such a super pro bike racer. Sleeping late, getting chauffeured to my races, handing off my jacket at the start line…
Awesome.
Not much to report from Nathan’s house here in Providence. I raced the Caster’s GP today and had a [...]

Freaking out!

A delayed update and new race report!
I’m totally freaking out about the trip (that I am now on, no turning back). I crammed all these wheels into my bike box and now it weighs 79 pounds. When Pete dropped me off yesterday morning; the woman at the check in counter informed me that it should [...]

Getting ready + back to training:

Rode out to the Portland Racing – Veloshop Kruger’s farm cx race yesterday with Brian Ellin and Sacha White.
I’ve spent the better part of last week trying to sneak in quality training, beat my cold/allergies and spend time with Pete, between working and getting everything ready to go. The night before the cx race saw [...]

Snow, sick, skip: Kansas city.

I cancelled the UCI Kansas City flight this weekend on the advice of my coach.
“You probably should not travel and rest this weekend if you are still sick.”
“um. no?”
“Look, you want to be healthy for nationals and Belgium.”
“oh yeah. um, ok.”
It snowed today downtown. Not crazy Boston snow but, enough to be glad I was [...]

USGP finals. F'ing sick, again.

I’ve had a bunch of bad luck, bad timing and bad legs so far this cx season.
25th place last Saturday at my first race back since being sick for the last couple weeks. I drove up to Puyallup and stayed with my dad’s family (including my 2 little half brothers, exciting!) on Friday evening. Was [...]
