I foresee a BIG leap in road/cx hydraulic technology here in the next few years. I suspect we’ll see improvements in the levers themselves, as well as forks, hubs/wheels, and etc.

In the meantime, ya gotta ask: are discs worth the tradeoff for great braking in the wet/nasties?

Now that the ban is lifted, I do honestly think we’re into the “next 5 years” zone.

Discs have had a huge leap in adoption in New England this year, and I am JEALOUS of the setups I see out there. Nothing like 5 years ago, where 1 dude showed up with a janky 22-lb Poprad with discs.

Because you guys don’t have UCI bizniz in PDX, you probably haven’t seen as drastic a change in disc bike density and quality.

@resultsboy – I’ve not disagreed with any of your points. Remember, in the early 2000s everyone was telling us we would “all be on disc brakes for cx in the next 5 years”.

Point of my post is, I’m still waiting.

In my limited experience they are a competitive advantage when it rains.

Friend of mine has a new 58cm disc SuperX that weighs 15.5 lbs.

If I could ride that bike I would.

They’re just brakes, but tubulars are just tires, right?

Mark my words, in five years you won’t see a single canti brake getting UCI points when it rains.

The technology may not be widespread, but I’ve ridden high-end disc bikes and they’re BETTER.

If you remember how long it took Euros to start riding 29ers, then you should know that that the disc revolution will start here, not there.
